bits I’m working on (and stuff already out)

Work on Genesis has begun

The first book of the Bible is a big book, but I launch into the verse-by-verse commentary with excitement. My enthusiasm is two-fold. First, I know the book is packed with great material to discuss, and sure enough: Though I’m only at the beginning of chapter three, I’ve already written over 80 pages of notes.

Second, Genesis marks the beginning of the end for my commentary writing. I started back in 2013 with a study of Hebrews. In the eleven years since, I have completed every book of the New Testament, and half the Old Testament. With the OT, I started with the prophet books (Isaiah-Malachi). After that, I pivoted to the wisdom/poetry books (Job-Song of Solomon). All that’s left is to start with Genesis and finish the set with Esther.

I still have a few more years of writing left before I’m done (God willing), but starting Genesis this week means starting the final chunk of books before I reach the checkered flag. I had someone ask me a few months ago: “What are you going to do when you finish them all?” My answer:

“Die, probably.”

But if that doesn’t happen, I’ll probably go back and re-write a few of the first ones I did. That’s a long way off, however.
