A Century of Wind, Fire, and Water (book three) is underway
Work on book three of the “A Century of Wind, Fire, and Water” series has begun…
The series, as I’ve said in other notes, is a twelve-part affair, stretching a hundred years. Book three has begun, taking place seven years after the original story (four years after the second). Since the series is divided into four “sagas” there will be a big time jump after this one, before the next saga begins with book four. What that means is I’m free in this book to start seeing previously-untouchable characters as expendable and to throw monkey wrenches into the machinery of the world as it’s been defined over the previous two books.
That much is happening even after a single chapter.
One thing that always bothered me about Star Wars is how, after nine movies and something like sixty years of in-universe stories, the “world” never really changed. Sure, empires rose and fell, relationships came and went, but in terms of technology the changes were miniscule.
The “Century” series begins with a purely “fantasy” world, but (spoiler alert) a lot can change in a world over the course of a hundred years. Book three hints at how war is a common accelerator to technology and innovation. New tools are teased here which will come en vogue in the next three books, etc.
As book three begins, relationships from the previous two stories are fractured, the world is in chaos, and if there’s hope to be found it is very dim and distant. This is a dark story that closes out the first saga.
One chapter down, I’m very much excited to write it.
